The different types of implant

One type of implant that is used for breast augmentation is the silicone gel. This type of implant is smooth and round and more natural looking that other types of implants. The silicone gel is less likely to cause the rippling look that the other implants might cause. Also, this type is the best choice for cancer patients because the soft pliable gel can be used with very little breast tissue. You can get silicone gel implants in a variety of sizes and shapes so it is easy to find one that is right for your body. You can also find a variety of profiles to choose from and there is a choice between a smooth or textured implant.

There is also a silicone gel implant trial available to people who sign up that uses and gel that will not leak if it is cut. At one point in the history of implants silicone gel implants were removed from the market by the FDA because they were thought to cause connective tissue and autoimmune problems but they were re-introduced to the market when no connection between the problem and implants could be found. One of the problems of the silicone implant is that if it ruptures the gel will leak and it might not be noticeable which can be dangerous.

Women who have the silicone gel implant must have an MRI three years after their breast enlargement surgery and again every two years from then on out to make sure a rupture has not occurred unnoticed. There are three positions that silicone get implants can be placed: subglandular, partial submuscular and complete submuscular. The silicone gel implants are about $1000 more expensive that the other implants because of the cost of the material that fills the implant. Also, make sure you find a surgeon who is experienced with silicone gel implants and discuss the surgery with him beforehand.
